High Plains Mirco Sprint Association Rules
General Rules:
1. Big Country Speedway race rules shall apply at all H.P.M.A. events.
2. H.P.M.A. officials shall have the responsibility for rules and regulation enforcement at H.P.M.A. events. At the discretion of track officials or H.P.M.A. officials, any competitor may be disqualified for rules violation or hazardous equipment or hazardous actions.
3. All H.P.M.A. vehicles are subject to be inspected at any time.
4. Approved of a H.P.M.A. vehicle by inspector shall mean only that the vehicle is approved for participation in a competitive event and shall not be construed in any way to mean the inspected vehicle is guaranteed mechanically sound. Be it further declared that the inspector shall not be liable, nor shall the H.P.M.A. officials, for any mechanical failure, nor for any loss or injuries resulting from the same.
5. Any un-sports-man-like conduct by drivers, owners, and/or pit crews shall be grounds for disqualification and/or punitive actions by the H.P.M.A. officials. Drivers are responsible for the conduct and actions of their pit crews.
6. Absolutely NO ALCOHOLIC beverages will be consumed by drivers and/or pit crews prior to, or while competing in, an H.P.M.A. events. Use, distribution or sale of illegal drugs at any time shall be cause for immediate, indefinite suspension.
Specific Rules:
1. AGE: Drivers age 13 and up may compete in this class. Drivers age 10-13 years old with QMA, Karting or Mini cup experience allowed only by H.P.M.A. officials approval.
2. Roll Cage: Roll cages shall be at least one(1) inch with .062- inch thickness, or 1-1/8 inch thickness. Roll cage will be made of chromyl steel or equivalent material. The front section of the cage shall be no further back than the front edge of the steering wheel. Roll cage shall have sufficient fore and aft bracing and strength to support the weight of the car and driver in case of an upset. It is recommended that the cage have gussets at the intersecting bars to the uprights. Bends must have at least 3-inch radius. No square or pointed corners allowed. No square tubing cages allowed. Roll cages must be a minimum of three(3) inches above the driver's helmet. It is mandatory to install a cross brace behide the seat to support the shoulder harness.
3. Bumpers and Nerfs: Cars must have a bumper extending beyond the front and rear tires. Nothing extend beyond a tangent line from the outside edge of the tires to the bumper. Nothing may extend beyond the outside edge of the tires or wheels, whichever is the widest. No sharp corners or design as to hook or damage. All cars must be equipped with nerf bars. Nerf bars must extend to the inside edge of the tires, but not to extend outside the tire.
4. Safety: Seat belts must be securely attached to the car and used at all times. Metal to metal latches only. Five(5) point seat belts, shoulder harness, and sub belts are required. Belts must be in good condition. Arm restraints are mandatory and must be adequately adjusted as to keep the driver's hands below the top of the roll cage. Neck braces are mandatory. Helmets must be a full head coverage, competition type, and one of three latest approvals. No motocross type helmets allowed. All drivers will wear a SFI rated flame retardant suit. All fire suits should not have holes anywhere in the suit NO nylon cordura suits. Flame retardant racing gloves required. H.P.M.A. strongly suggests the use of fireproof underwear, socks and shoes. Minimum of right hand net required halo head rest recommended.
5. Electrics and Electronics: On and off switches must be mounted on the dash with a fluorescent orange or red ring painted around it. Kill stitch must be connected and functional. No radio communication is allowed in the car or with the driver. All coils and ignition boxes must be mounted on the top portion of the front end. Components must be readily accessible by removing only the hood.
6. Battery: All wet cell batteries mounted in the cockpit must be covered and vented outside the cockpit area.
7. Fuel: Methanol or gas (No additives of any kind allowed) Except for two stroke oil. Must have a 4" by 4" sticker stating "A" for alcohol and "G" for gas centered on the back tail tank near the filler neck (or where it would be if it were a tank) and above the nose number to either side. Letters must be of contrasting colors. (safety)
8. Weight: All 250cc will weigh 600 pounds. Single cylinder four cycle over 455cc powered cars, minimum car and drivers weight 675 pounds. Four(4) cylinder 600cc powered cars, minimum car and driver weight 750 pounds.
9. Brakes: Brakes will be sufficient strength so as to slide the wheels while the car is in motion.
10. Shocks: Any shock absorber legal, except no cockpit adjustable shocks. May have nitrogen shock.
11. Suspension: Tread: maximum- 48 inches, minimum- 32 inches as measured center to center of the tires. Maximum wheelbase shall be 70 inches, minimum wheelbase shall be 50 inches, as measured from the center of the front axel to the center of the rear axel. Steering-front wheels must be connected by a solid or tubular tie rod. Rear wheel drive only.
12. Wheels and Tires: All cars 10 inch tires only, tires may not exceed 22-1/2 inches in height. Wheels must be held on with four (4) or more studs or knock off hubs. Dirt tires only- axels may not extend past wheels.
13. Bodies: All cars must have complete bodies. Tail sections must be in place for all races. Recommended metal firewall between driver and engine, made of 24 gauge steel or .0625 inch thickness aluminum. Bodies must be made of aluminum, metal, fiberglass, or high impact plastic. All cars must be painted attractive color(s). No mirrors of any kind allowed. The only part of the car allowed to be dismantled for the driver to enter or exit the car is a quick release steering wheel hub. All fuel tanks should be equipped with a one-way check value to prevent spillage of fuel in case of a roll over. Chain guards mandatory. Drivers must not be able to touch the chain or sprocket while sitting in the cockpit.
14. Transmissions: Four(4) cylinder engines must have transmissions with all stock gears in working order. Any car with a shifting mechanism must have the devise mounted in the cockpit area.
15. Wings: All cars-twelve(12) square foot wing maximum. All wings must have 1/16 inch radius edges or edging. No raw edges. No wood except for ribs or spars inside the center section. Wings can not be more than four (4) inches below top of roll cage. No nose wings. Wings may be removed for safety reasons because of high winds at the discretion of H.P.M.A. officials. All wings on or all off. No cockpit adjustable wings. Wing is required to start event. Exceptions will be made for one race.
16. Ballast: Any material used for ballast must be firmly attached as a part of the car's structure. No Ballast containing liquid or loose ballast such as water, fuel, oil, sand bags, rocks, log chains, etc. allowed. All weights must be painted with the car number on it.
17. Numbers: All cars must have legible numbers painted in CONTRASTING COLORS on both sides of the car and top wing. Minimum height of numbers on the nose is eight (8) inches. Numbers on top wing will be 12 inches, numbers on the tail will be 10 inches. Numbers will be separated from advertising so that they will be readable.
18. Engines:
Engines and components will be randomly checked at the track. All mufflers must be in good condition.
19. Engine Change: Anyone making an engine change after they make a qualifying run shall either re-qualify or go to the back of their first race. Any engine change once qualifying is over will require car to be tagged to the back of it's next race that day. An engine change is considered when the case is removed and replaced. ( A cylinder, head or piston change is not considered an engine change).
20. Rules Infractions: If any competitor is found to have illegal parts or non functional components at any time, they will lose all points and/or money for that night.
